250SL diff "howling" dissasembled and found wear on "coast"side of ring.  Priced parts from M-B and was "shocked".  Are there alternative sources for new ring & pinion, bearings etc.?

Just about all bearings I have seen are embossed or marked with a generic bearing identifier along the outer edge.  With that identifier you can go to any bearing supply house and get an exact replacement.  There are several grades of the same bearing having to do with tolerances.  The better bearing is more expensive.  Make sure you buy the same or better grade for your rear axle.
