Going thru my MB parts guy and also calling the Classic Center, I'm told that windshield seals #1136710220 are NLA. The MB parts guy checked other dealers and found an original seal lying on the shelf at a MB dealer in Califiornia and one in Puerto Rico.
I was very surprised since the aluminum frames and the windshield itself are available, and a good seal is critical.
So I did some searching and found that the most widely distributed aftermarket seal is made by URO Parts, an internationl company specializing in certain NLA parts for MB, VW, SAAB, Porche. Some of these distibutors advertise the seal as "OEM".
I called URO Parts and their rep explained that they don't like it when their parts are advertised as "OEM" since they are not, and that they were not the original supplier of these windshield seals. He went on to tell me that they have been making aftermarket parts since 1959, and since their rubber is treated against UV breakdown, it may be better than the original that was made before this technology was available. He said that their 113 windshield seal is not "cut-to-fit" and should fit properly without modification.
Any thoughts?
