Connector splitting
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:41:37 »
Hi, I need to remove the multifunction switch on the steering column (Indicators etc) to work on it. It needs the multiway connector removing to pull it through the steering column.
I've noticed a few broken connectors of this type on the car so wondered if anyone has come up with a foolproof way of splitting these connectors without breaking them! Thanks

Look for 2 or 3 screw heads on the side with the pins.

Hi Naj, the connectors i am refering to have clip on covers. You have to spread the cover to clear the moulding which locks the cover on. It's this part that seems to break so that I have some connectors without covers! Is there an easy way of spreading the cover?

Yes, I have replaced a few of the four and six pin ones, especially in the engine bay where they have become very brittle.
