111 cowl seal needed - found
« on: December 07, 2010, 18:05:37 »
I need #111 687 50 11. This is a cowl to hood seal for a 111 car. I have been told that this part is NLA and has been substituted for a 108 part that doesn't fit or look quite right.

Anybody have one?

Thanks,

Wallace Wheeler

Wallace,

Are you sure the part is NLA? I checked the Mercedes Benz Classic Spare Parts Portal and it shows that part number is avalable.

I contacted the classic center and they say it has been substituted for #115 887 02 98 and that it has been substituted for many years now. However, I have only had my car for three years now and I know I bought a new piece two years ago.

The 115 part doesn't even come close to fitting and is for a 108 car like yours, not a 111. Where else can I see if it is available other than the classic center?

Thanks,

Wallace

Wallace,

I don't know what to tell you about the part number. If I look up part numbers on the MB (German) web site to see if they are still available (with the original number) the site will tell me if it is "not found" if it is NLA, it will not cross over to a new number.

Perhaps someone at the classic center (USA) needs to contact the German classic center or explain what is going on as there is clearly a price listed from the Germany site for your original part number. Maybe send them an email with the link I furnished.

If all else fails try some west coast California wrecking yards that specialize in vintage Mercedes for a used part.

Wallace,

I just talked with my local Mercedes (dealer) parts guy and he said your part is available in Germany. List price is $92.50. Took him about 20 seconds to give me that answer (he complained about having to wait for his computer to answer his request). Maybe you should try to order the part from your local Mercedes dealer who can get it for you from Germany.
