Fuel Pump Core value $
« on: February 22, 2004, 20:29:00 »
My fuel pump is dead; and has been replaced.

I have the core, does it have any value? ie, on ebay?

It seems that something worth $450 coule be rebuilt or worth something; I was told by Hans that the bushing go on these and its spins to the sides hitting the housing and seizing.

k,

I believe there was an early version that had some rebuildable components, but later ones were not manufactured the same.  A search on this site should turn up some information.  Others might comment here.

Hey k,

Is it from a 230, 250 or 280 sl? The pumps can be rebuilt.

I recently rebuilt my old style pump for about $17.00 AUD. This did not include replacing the brushes.

K,

Bob is right. The two versions of the pump can be rebuilt if they are not too far gone. With the older, large style pump, it's usually the sealing that fails. This pump usually only requires new bearings, brushes, a cleaning of the main bellows seal, and replacement of some other o-rings. The newer, smaller pump is much easier to rebuild because the sealing system is much simpler and their are no ball bearings to replace. If the commutators on the armatures are worn through, the pumps are good for parts. Cores usually run anywhere from $25.00-75.00.
