113 Sales Brochure?

Did Mercedes produce a 113 only sales brochure showing colors, options, etc or was it just one page in larger M-B catalog??

The folllowing is from a post last March;

"This weekend I went to an Auto Parts flea market and found an original 230SL sales brochure in excellent condition. Of course I purchased it right away. It contains the original spec/info sheet and other neat stuff like the dealer's business card. After reading it this evening I began to wonder if there are other vintage brochures, mailers, magazines adds, etc... which may be worth finding and collecting? Does anyone have any suggests of what to look for? BTW, does anyone know if MB issued color combination samples in their brochures from this era? the guy I purchased it from deals in vintage brochures of this type and had mentioned that many car manufacturers of the time didn't offer color swatches in there brochures.

I have collected a variety of period sales brochures from Ebay over the past couple of years. There are a couple of 'varieties', one being brochures that contain the range of Mercedes automobiles for a given year, and one specifically for the SL. Mercedes still sell a reprint for the 280 SL brochure in the Museum in Stuttgart (and probably other places) that's several pages and has spec sheets for the 230 SL and 250 SL also. It's offered on Ebay almost continually. One rare brochure shows all (or at least many) of the available colors on (I believe) a fold-out sheet that has something like 24 230 SL's on it, each in a different color. I have not managed to get a hold of that one yet.
We are currently looking at posting on the site an overview of all of the colors that were available for the Pagoda, with the color name and number. To be continued ...

Personally, I think the quality of the 280 SL Brochure that Mercedes reprinted is atrocious. I've purchased the reprint and wouldn't recommend anyone else buy it. The photos are very grainy and of extremely poor quality.

I have the sale brochure for the 250SL and it does not include any kind of color sheet. There is a separate sheet at the back with all the technical specifications. I believe this to be an original. Getting the brochure with colors is something I have kept my eye out for, but to no luck as of yet.

Doug, you are a little hard on the reprint!!
It is of fair quality, could be better, but it is a sales brochure, not a complete technical data source!!!!
by the way, when are you taking your car out...

In the book "Faszination W113" published by Mercedes-Benz Classic (see information in our "Publications" section: http://www.sl113.org/publications.asp ), there's an interesting list with cover pictures of all the different "W113 only" sales brochures. There were several (3 or 4) for the 230 SL, one for the 250 SL, and two for the 280 SL (if I remember well).

I have one of the 230SL brochures that shows the colors available.  However, it only displays about 12 colors so it is not comprehensive.

Collected almost all the sales brochures starting with the 230SL, to 250sl to 280SL and then to the North American sales literature done by MBZ USA. Mercedes-Benz always had a seperate sample color chip sheet not encluded with their cataloge models. For this reason I do not now un till now as they have adopted this rule . I have the early 1967 color chip fold-out and the colors appear darker than in seeing the car in person.
these color chip books thin three page with tisue in between can be had if presued by enthusiast through automotive literature collectors. I just purchased one of the last English cataloges from England same as museum cataloge but in English. I long sought this catalog to add to my collection now it is complete.

The German Pagoda Club (http://www.sl-club-pagode.de) made a reprint of the "Farbnummer und Farbbezeichnungen"
I can send you a PDF-file of the front and back side of this reprint.

Daimler-Benz sold their passenger cars & trucks in many countries around the world.With the Stuttgart office still making most of the marketing decisions in the 1960s.In the United states dealers still received cataloges for each automobile  model sold and separate & unique brochures to outline the optional equipment availible on request.
These unique cataloges called special equipment for Mercedes-Benz Passenger vehicals were candy for any enthusiast who wished to special order his car for over seas delivery and and a fortnight vacation.
The reward was that these cars after acummulating mileage came back as used cars and saved dollars for their owners and as a prize to drive at home where ever that might be.
Again we are talking about the early 1960s up to 1968 before the full envolvement of Mercedes-Benz Of North America. Special cataloges with color chips paints three fold with tisue and leather & vinyl sample swatch brochures could be picked up at a Mercedes-Benz Dealer. Today these items are relicks of times much simpler and tracing one's cars history can enclude having these items to read the coded cards that came with the ownership of a 1960 Mercedes-Benz.
