play in tansmission shift linkage
« on: May 03, 2010, 22:55:08 »
Okay this is another one of those neurotic moments.  I am replacing the two nylon grommets in the linkage from the tansmission to the shifter.  I notice that the lock nut is tight and there is still some movement left to right of the two sections.  That is to say if you hold one end in each hand you can rotate it app. 1/16 of an inch or so.  It also has some play in and out if you push.   So is this play normal or is it something to be taken care of while I am at this point?

I also had this free play and if you remove the locating pin it can be taken apart.
Once inside you will find a rubber insert that is causing the problem.
Both pin and rubber insert is available from MB.
