Panic over must have wound it out to far running at 750 rpm

The idle control knob should not spin when the engine is running.  You indicate the screw maybe backed out CCW all the way.  In that case the slotted screw may be in contact with the adjusting knob.  Is there any slack in the adjustment knob before it comes in contact with the screw head.  There should be about 1/4 in movement before the knob comes in contact with the screw.

From your description it sounds like you are confusing the functions of the idle air screw with the idle mixture knob.
The knob that was spinning is the idle mixture knob and is used to control fuel delivered at idle, while the idle air screw on the inlet manifold is used to control idle AIR .
If the knob was spinning then it was probably just stuck in the "adjust" position (spring compressed) and has now freed itself.
As long as you didn't touch the spinning knob she should be fine.

Thanks fellas I did wind it out to far,there is about 1/4inch movement inwards before it engages with the slotted screw,know running at 750rpm.it did leak a bit of oil while spinning but now its stopped thank goodness for the group.Cheers Mike.
