there is a small chrome clip type thing at the top of the window rubber nearest the windscreen it slides into the metal channel that hold the door seal,it seems to act as a support for the rubber when you close the door.mine has only got one on the drivers side {RHD} should they be on both sides

Do you mean the clips shown in the photo?
They are on both windows.

Do you have a photo of these in situ, I don't recognise these pieces so maybe mine are missing

According to the 250SL/280SL parts list the p/n for these angle clips is 1137250141 and it shows a location on the A-pillar (Group 72). It is still available - although the price will make you sick!
However, these clips were also on the 230SL/early 250SL but the exact location is not so clear. On my 230SL they are located at the bottom end of the A-pillar and I believe there is also one on the hardtop at the same location above on the horizontal rubber seal. Since the hardtop is currently in storage I cannot check it.
My (non-original) 280SL has four of these clips on the hardtop but none on the A-pillar. See attached photos.
This makes some sense since the molding on the A-pillar of the 280SL is quite different compared to the one on the 230SL.
I hope John L. can post photos of his original 250SL showing these clips.

Half the group have run out to their cars to check if they have them. I don't and it is something that I have missed when doing the rebuild of the hard top. I don't understand where they go on the A pillar?

Hi Garry,
I agree that on a 280SL I cannot see where they should go on the A-pillar.
Whereas on the 230SL - as you can see in my photo - it makes sense. Or not?
--
I looked around on Brian Peters' web site (MotoringInvestments.com) and found photos of 280SL hard tops and they do have two clips on the horizontal rubber seal. In addition there is a photo of a 230SL that has the clip on the A-pillar. Unfortunately no photos of a 230SL/early 250SL hard top.

Hi Alfred,
Thanks, can see where they would go on the hard top but the door A pillar does not make sense so will not worry about it. Will have to watch out for some next time I am at my favourite wreckers.
