Another strange wiper fenomen
« on: July 27, 2010, 12:41:55 »
I reinstalled the wipers and by testing and adjusting I noticed that when I switch off the wipers they don't stop at the lowest point of sweeping but raise again to about halfway. Could it be the relay or is there something else wrong. The switch works well on both speeds.

the crank arm on the motor shaft is not in the correct position. To correct this run the wiper motor with the crank arm removed, switch off the wipers using the combi switch and let the motor stop in the parked position. Turn off  the igniton key (an important step unless you want to get your fingers cut off) then install the crank arm to the fully extended position and tighten the 13mm nut on the wiper motor shaft.

Thanks for clearing that out to me Al. With the fully extended position, do you mean wipers all the way open or closed? ( I thought closed but please correct me if I'm wrong)

Al sounds like he has it but wanted to mention mine have a mind of their own. The arms shut off in the correct place -- if I time it right. Also, every few months, it seems, I will go to start the car and the wipers start moving. I am guessing my issue has to do with wiring or a contact in the stalk or relay.

Paul;  I am refering to the wipers in the parked (I imagine that is what you mean by closed) position. When viewed from beneath the dash or through the glove box opening. the crank arm should be in a straight line with the wiper linkage.

Jim;  It sounds like the parking contact inside the wiper motor is not making good contact. This is on the plastic reduction gear inside the motor and they can get grease on the contacts.

Yes Al that's what I mean with closed position. Thanks again, I'll get into that tomorrow

Paul glad to help.
BTW. My avitar photo where I am standing next to a road sign with my name on it was taken in Belgium,  about 50km west of Brussels.
