Anyone know the part Number for Spal AC blower?
« on: September 12, 2010, 14:41:18 »
Hi,
Stuck on the boat I work on this weekend so I am starting to work on my new Frigiking AC purchase. I would like to install a Spal blower upgrade and would like to know if anyone had a Part# for it?

Regards,
Pat

Hi Shvegel,

Not still stuck on boat, I trust.  I've been working on and off for some time on a/c, haven't brought it all together yet so am not the definitive word on anything.  That said, I looked at the Spals after reading of them here, found likely suspects on pps. 48 and 66 of their online catalog as it was a year or so ago.  [Actually, wife and my families are in same area as Spal USA, so I thought I'd mosey on over one fine day; no dice: no "city desk" and no visitors.  Odd, being there at the only Spal facility this side of Italy and having no way to interface with them.]  Spal products are only accessible through specialty retailers, and in Iowa those guys are all geared toward dirt track racing and I just got nowhere.
Dunno what Spal outlets our posters found --and wish I did: try high-end auto aftermarketers? -- but in the course of cobbling a/c systems many paths lead to Vintage Air, pretty much the 800 # gorilla in that room.  Poking around their operation led to Ryan in Engineering [extension 134].  Based on a discussion of cabin size and measurements of original fans -- especially in the area of interface with the evaporator shroud assembly -- he recommended their P/N 401-000-VUR, then priced at $124.  Probably not the performer that the Spal would be yet likely more fan than necessary or originally supplied - - and less expensive than the Spal.  I ordered one but that project has been overshadowed by so many higher priorities that it may not get done in time for even the next warm season.
Best luck with your efforts, and let us know how it goes; solid information on this would be a welcome contribution to our trove.

Pat--go to this site <http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.aspx?p=CategoryBody&c=BLDO&pg=0>. The unit I used on my A/C is 006 A40-22.

George,
Thanks for the info. I ordered the 006-A46-22 a couple of days ago. It looks like the same blower only 3 speeds instead of one.

Denny,
I wasn't stuck but I am again.  The bright side is my Frigiking underdash face had a bend in it from being stored up against something and I just popped it up on top of one of the main engines(Caterpillar 3508's which are about the size of a Volkswagen beetle) as we ran around today and the heat from the engine helped to relax it iand it is almost gone.

Hey, Pat -

I've got  a little wobble in my underdash cover, too; really must try your method the very next time we fire up our Cat 3508s.  And will let you know how that works out.  Tee hee.

From what I've read here, you'll love the Spal and will never use more than the second speed.  Luck with it all.
