3 point retractable seat belts
« on: September 27, 2010, 19:51:45 »
I have a 1966 230SL.  I have lap belts in the car.  Where is a good vendor to purchase 3 point retractable seat belts?  I have contacted Millers, Inc. and they did not have them.  Many thanks.

Holden,

There are several means of doing so.

Arguably the best would be the Technical Bulletin to do so issued by MB some years ago.  Contact me off line and I'll send you the information and parts list.

Other vendors to try include Brian Peters of Motoring Investments in San Diego; Gernold Nisius of SL Tech, and Bud's in Georgia.  All of done this at one time or another, not always with the above reference.

I have been interested in the same thing.  I see that dbdepot in Germany lists 3-point automatic seat belts for the W113 (http://dbdepot.de/index.php?nav=4&lan=2&).  Does anyone have experience with these?  Do they just bolt into the existing spots, or is modification required?

Many thanks,
David

I al;so have a 66 230sl and found a set of 3 point belts on E-Bay for around $80.    I fitted the retractor box under the shelf behind each seat.  It did require that I make a tab that I welded in.   Once done it looks really great, the belts come through the gap between the shelf and the inner pannel.  Other than the retractor, everything else just bolts where the existing 2 point belts attach.  (the 66 has the 3rd attachment point above the seat already there, just hidden under the pannel.)

Oh, mine is a 1970 280SL, so it already has 3-pt Kangol's.  But I'd like to put retractable belts in.

These things can be great but could also turn into a death trap if not installed properly.  I had Gernold install my belts and I have the peace of mind that it was done right.

Hi John,
I have a set of MB retractable seat belt that I had bought years ago in Germany for a 280SL. I never got around to using them so they are still new and never used. If you are interested let me know and I can get some photos of them.

Hi Gerry,
The belts are black, original webbing (SL style 4 row). I am asking $400 for the pair and that includes all of the NOS hardware.
