Finally! I had been trying off and on for a couple of weeks to get the side windows of my hardtop back into place without any success and decided I needed a break. After abandoning the project for three months my wife started dropping broad hints (pun intended), that the job needed to be finished because she was tired of seeing it sitting there. This time, after 20 minutes of maneuvering, the window suddenly “popped” into place. I simply stood there looking at it in disbelief! I learned a few things that should make the other side go a bit easier.
1. Use Armor All as a lubricant, lots of Armor All. As in many other pursuits, lubrication is a key to success.
2. Use three STIFF putty knives to pry the window into place. Flexible knives won’t do the job.
3. Maneuvering three putty knives at once is tricky but necessary. A second set of hands is useful.
4. Fortunately the glass is very tough because you have to strong-arm it to the “pop point”.
5. I found that 1” of the top rubber seal is slightly cocked. But shouldn’t be a leak problem. I was thinking of removing the window to fix it but remembered the words of a surgeon friend who said that in surgery: “Perfect” is the enemy of “Good Enough”.
6. Get the top up on a table, if possible. Trying to work the issue on the floor is, literally, a pain in the back….among other places.
7. Persistence is the key. Eventually it will go in!
