Injector pump 280 SL Euro
« on: March 13, 2011, 11:05:30 »
I have sourced a pump for my 280 SL 1970 Euro. Pump number is PES6KL70B120R25. I have read the threads, but my problem is that the end cover on the pump has no opening for the solenoid. I have opened the cover and cannot see any internal mechanism for the solenoid. Could it be that the Euro pump does not have a solenoid?
Also, as I have no way of telling if the settings are correct, should I wait till engine is up and running before I start doing adjustments?

The Euro pumps in 1970-1971 did not have any solenoids fitted.  The USA pumps had only one solenoid for fuel shutoff on coasting. mandated by emissions regs.

As for settings, you will need to install it and work from there. Bit first I would make certain that the rack is not frozen.  I might be tempted to install a new thermostat or warm running device.  while you have it off.

Pete
Thanks for info. This is really helpful, as I thought that I would have to get a different pump. I have checked the thermostat, and it seems to be working fine, as the shaft moves when hot water is placed in the housing.
The rack moves freely, and the inside of the pump looks very clean, with no wear showing on the lower cams.

I second Pete's comment about replacing the thermostat and also replace the warm up air filter before adjusting anything. That way you will be done and not have to re-adjust because you had to change a part after the fact.
