BBB has missing details and sections
« on: May 10, 2004, 07:16:33 »
Am I the only one to ever notice this? Someone once told me (perhaps in this group) that MB often updated the book with updates to information previous version of the manual - thus leaving out unchanged sections. If this is true, which it appears by looking thru the book, then how do I get to the sections that didn't change? Do I look for an earlier copy of the BBB and try to buy it?  I've got a '71 280SL. Should I be looking for a BBB printed in 1969 for the 250, or an even earlier one for the 230, *OR* should I just pester you folks when I'm looking for soemthing that's not in the book? Is there a CD or DVD with EVERYTHING?

Your thoughts?

There is a CD that is sold by the US Classic Center that I would think will encompass everything. Not sure about the notion that later versions of the BBB would be incomplete; this may apply only to service bulletins that would be additional to the basic manual. Maybe one of the real experts can tell us for sure.

By all means, pester us! From the Q&A's we all learn, even if some of these questions could be avoided by looking into the various sources like the BBB, Haynes, Chilton's, the Technical Data Manual, and by consulting the Technical Articles on this site (here: http://www.sl113.org/articles/default.asp).

That's the sad thing about books - everyone reads them and sees something different. Most of what you really need to know isn't even in there but they're still a valuable tool in the right hands.

It must be remembered that they were written for people with high end skills who were very familiar with these cars at the time they were current. If it's hard to understand technical information it's even harder to write it in a way that's clear and easy to understand.
To that end this forum has been of great use to me as I improve my computor skills and also my writing of complicated information.
