i have recently bought a 250 sl with no engine and transmission and i need some help.
I have bought a 280 SE engine that i found  and i need info on choosing an automatic transmisiion. Does the car need any modification to install the 280 SE engine ? do the engine mounts need to be changed? and how about the wirring harness ?

Hello georgeb,

The aluminum engine supports on each side will have to be changed. The SL supports are different and allow the engine to sit lower. The automatic transmission can be easily identified by the oil pan. It will need to have a 16 bolt oil pan. Most out there are 4 or 6 bolt and are different all together.  The six cylinder gasoline Mercedes finback sedans of the era used these. Some early Mercedes W 108 sedans also used them. Do not use an automatic transmission out of a diesel. Search for a Mercedes six cylinder sedan 1962 to 1968.

Not much problem with wiring. Some minor plumbing issues.
