Brake/Clutch cylinder repair kits

Hi--

I've looked at several sites for rebuild kits for 230SL hydraulics--master, slave and wheel cylinders and front calipers.

Does anyone have any tips on where to look?  I'm interested in re-sealing the hardware that I have, not in buying new cylinders, etc. 

Also, who sells rear brake shoes?

Hello,

Will Samples used to have a brake shoe exchange service for re-lined shoes. Hydraulics should be available from a "Beck-Arnley" kind of source in your town.  Otherwise try K & K, Bud's, Will Samples, and even the MB dealer.

I got the clutch master and slave kits from Mercedes - for $22 and $27 respectively.

I get my shoes relined at a place that uses a better quality material than the original stuff. It definately works better. I normally have exchange sets on hand but run low because people tend not to return their cores. So.... I put the core price up.



 This is were I would strongly disagree. I won't rebuild master or slave cylinders. Once slaves start to leak they will always leak. Moisture caused the leak and lack of fluid changes made them pitted.
 For me it's about liability - I'm not about to put somone into a tree just to save a few bucks. For sure it's ALWAYS a new master cylinder - your most important part of the system.

Around here the law requires that you put a safe car on the road. If you do your own repairs and something goes wrong you could be ( probably will be anyway ) found liable. Just something to consider. I would never recomend rebuild kits to anyone. EVER.

Joe ... I recommend relining pads and brake shoes with carbon-Kevlar material for superior braking.  Cost is about the same but the material is superior.  Try Porterfield Racing in California (R4S lining material). http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/

Hi Jim I was looking through the topics on rear brake shoes for the 230sl and you mentioned going to Porterfields to have the shoes relined. I am close to costa mesa and so I was going to try them. Do you still think it is the best bet! Thanks mary
