Help - Looking for a Picture in the Discussions
« on: May 06, 2011, 20:47:37 »
I'm looking for a picture posted in the forums, but I can't find it.  It's a picture of a door frame aluminum casting... noting the great german engineering involved in casting such complicated part.  Could someone remind me what thread that's in?  I've searched, but can't seem to find it.

My students are casting some aluminum bicycle parts that they designed, learning the challenges of casting successfully, so I remembered that photo and want to show them.

Thanks for the help!

I never saw this, but Black Forest in Wisconsin had the casting on display at StarTech last week in Milwaukee.  Someone must have taken a photo of this, or just contact Michael at Black Forest--I'm sure he'll take a good photo of this if he does not already.

N.B.  It is a pretty amazing casting.

I found the picture, but I was mistaken - it was not in the forum but instead in the "Fazination SL" book I recently purchased.  The picture is attached.

That photo of the solid casting confirms why Joe Alexander's use of copper wire to fill out a hole when a screw hole gets enlarged in any item attached to the door is the best way to go.  Trying to use the next size screw will only jam up in the aluminium cast.
Dont ask why I know.
