Fuel Gauge Stuck at 1/4 Tank
« on: May 01, 2011, 16:33:19 »
On my 1965 230SL, the fuel guage operates from off (empty) to 1/4 tank even though there is a full tank of fuel and has a brand new fuel sending unit. Any comments would be appreciated.

There are early and late style sending units which will not interchange unless the fuel gauge is changed also.  Did you install a cylindrical unit or a "lever and float" type?

There is a shipping pin that holds the float in place that needs to be removed before installation of the new sensor.

did you try to change the wiring I noticed when I was experimenting with the wires somehow when they were switched from place the gauge only went to 1/4. Also I read in the technical pages that gauge and sender unit are not interchangeable with newer types. If you changed to the newer tube unit maybe that can cause a conflict also.
