280 sl 1969 a lot of Gasoline / Petrol in Engine

 i read that the cold start valve causes rich mixture with clogged spark plugs, black somoke and petrol smell  in exaust fumes, and uneven iddling with very poor acceleration. All this is happening  to my car,  but it can cause the big amount of petrol in engine  oil?
What other  problems  causes big amounts of petrol in engine oil?.

Yes this can be caused by a stuck WRD. or a leaky CSV or possibly a stuck rack in the injection pump.

I would check the WRD first.

Had the same issue to a lesser degree, but after skipping the short trips and only driving longer distances, the problem has cured itself. My engine oil used to smell a lot of gasoline, but when I changed it this Sunday, it didn't....

Warm Running Device - a kind of automatic choker that makes sure a cold engine will get plenty of fuel and should switch off by itself. If stuck, the mixture will remain too rich and thus foul plugs, cause excessive fumes, poor running and a distinct gasoline smell in the engine oil (this can also be due to a bad injector, though).

Sorry - just realized that I'm confusing the WRD with the Cold Start Valve in terms of describing its' function, but the abbreviation is correct - will not try to be clever again while being slightly stressed at work...

Yes Ulf is correct. The WRD (Warm Running Device) is a kind of choke or a warm up regulator. It controls fuel mixture while the engine is warming up. It richens the fuel mixture and provides extra air for the engine while it is warming up. This is one of the items which get stuck when a car is stored for extended periods. It has a small round air filter on it and is located at the rear/top of the injection pump and has two coolant lines and one air line going to it.
