Injector pump Dip Stick
« on: June 17, 2011, 02:31:12 »
Ok, now I am armed with pictures.  I see 2 removable vent caps.  See the pictures.  In the pictures, I removed one cap that looked like where the oil should get filled, but I see no dipstick.  Now, if I have a resevoir that needs filling, how do I see how much oil to put in.  If I have an injector pump that gets oil from the engine, how do I tell.  I appreciate any help.

Hi, Dave,

The dipstick is on the back of the pump and below the solenoid.

If you have the later FI pump it won't have a check valve in the oil line going to the pump or a dip stick on the back cover.

Your picture did the trick.  Wow.  I never would have found it.  Only cost me a scratched hand.  Success late last night, only getting to the computer now.  Thanks again for taking the time and effort to help me out.
Good news - full of clean fresh oil.

Benz Dr.  Thanks for weighing in, too.

Off to the next thing!

How full is full?

On the bottom of the dip stick is a flat side.
The oil level should be no higher than the top mark of flat side.

Mine has gotten so full that it has run out the top of the red cap filling hole.  That is because I think that gasoline is leaking into the oil area of the pump and is filling up the oil level.  I assume this means a rebuild at some point.  For now I syphon all of the oil/gas out when it goes up and then fill it with oil again.   I've only needed to do that once since the car has been apart for the last year +.

If your oil level is too high, make sure as best you can that it is just oil and not oil/gas.   To remove the oil, a big syringe and some plastic tubing shoved down the fill hole works best.    Or a mityvac would be easier, but I didn't have a mityvac back then...  (mityvac needed for W123 vacuum system)
