Anyone have an idea where the glove box black rubber bumpers can be located...?

They are available from Mercedes Part # is 110 987 05 39.

have you bought the current part in Europe by chance?
The part sold here by the Classic Center is not really a good replacement for the original.
It is too thick resulting in a noticeable lid gap.

Alfred, actually I haven't bought this part yet, but as you said it's a replacement for the original part. (which was 110 987 04 39 BTW)
I've found that it's not uncommon that the MB supplied replacement parts fit less than optimal or sometimes cannot be used at all.
I don't know of any other part that could fit, so I assume that modifying the replacement parts to a lower profile might be a way to go.

That will also eliminate the possibility of getting reprimanded by the originality police for using a part not valid according to the parts catalog. ;-)

I just happened to have on order a set of 2 rubber bumpers for my 1970 280SL glove box.
According to Jon Siggson at the MB Classic Center, the part number is 115 987 02 40.

They are being shipped from Germany for $1.20 each and should be here within a week.

I will respond as soon as I have them in place and let you know what I think of the fit.

it is interesting how the parts number seems to vary amongst us.

Mr. Siggson is wrong, at least according to the paper version parts catalog and the EPC (both standalone and online version I checked).
If it turns out that the 115 part# is a better replacement for the original 110# Siggson should have someone correct the EPC.

I also just sent my VDO into Palo Alto Speedo for repair.  I may have to wait to get it back and reassemble the glove box, but sooner or later I will provide information on how the bumpers work out.

You know, I was just making myself a note to call Jon at the Classic Center tomorrow.  I have been extremely busy at work and today realized that I never received my order.

I will check on them tomorrow and as promised I will post something about them once I receive and install them.

Jon had both the 115 and the 110 numbers in stock and tried them both in a car in for restoration.  The 115 did not work so that leaves us with the thick 110's.  I ordered another set and carefull sanded them with 100 grit paper.  The thinner bumpers did make a difference.

Hello Jim,

Did you ever receive the bumpers that you ordered a while ago?

Here are a few pics of the rubber bumpers I bought from SLS last year after I dug them out from storage.

I am not sure what the equivalent Mercedes part number would be, but the ones from SLS pictured here does look a little too big.

Not sure which one fits best...

I have 2 grommets in your picture on the inner right wing on my RHD car. They cover the 2 holes where the voltage reg fits on a LHD car.

Sorry I have failed to respond earlier, been a tad busy. 

Yes, I did finally receive two from the Classic Center part # 000-987-18-40.  John told me that they were not the correct ones, but they were all they had anymore.  I convinced him to send them to me to see if I could make them work.

Looking at Jaco's posting from today, what I received look exactly like what he received from SLS. I was able to use my Dremel tool to shape the bumper to emulate what is on the car, but I have not had much success getting it installed in the hole.
