Where did you get yours from?

They all look much of a muchness apart from those fancy plexi glass ones.

Got mine from Classic Additions as they gave me a bit of discount.. seems like the same one most websites advertise.

Thanks for your part in stimulating the world's economy!

Would you mind sharing what it cost to re-chrome the grille surround?

Around £270 GBP, this included the air intake grille.  I used Marque Restore in the midlands.

Just dropped 4grand on mine also.   Mainly all mechanical/suspension/full service to make it run better so hopefully money well spent in the long run!

Jay

I got the MB one for a vast fortune..... I had a different type in the past (perspex, from NL) and although it didn't work very well, it also scraped the top of my kinder seat. Asking around in Alsace last year, t seems that one that sits on the lip of the soft top well is likely to do that whereas those with the kinder seat tended to have the MB one which clips to the lip of the well cover

I'll pop into the garage over the weekend and install it...

Be thankful your not trying to do some work on a MB Grand 600 !

Here are some snippets the author who said were left on the cutting room floor after he did an article on the Grand 600 for the latest issue of the  "Car and Driver" magazine:

"A window can take your arm off. The window switch, which makes it possible to take your arm off, costs $11,200."

The suspension-height switch—the cockpit valve that adjusts the 600’s ride height—goes for a more manageable $1,400."

Complete on-line article can be seen here:

Be glad . . be very glad.

A window can take your arm off - it's not electric, it's hydraulic. Most of the time the window switches only need adjustment. There's a very small screw that can be turned in or out to adjust window lift speed.

This is a very complicated car but everything can be fixed. We are doing one right now and  luckily all of the hydraulic system is working perfectly. All of the blower motors work ( there are four diffrent ones ) which is a real plus.

We had to take the brakes apart to free up the pistons but nothing was stuck. My only tuning on the engine was an oil change - it runs that well. Should be going in for paint in about a month.
Car weighs 5,800 lbs but will still do 0 to 60 in about 10 seconds. Monster engine in front of a monster car.

Thanks for the link to the article on the 600. I have always been fascinated by that car. I bought my first SL from Hollywood Mercedes and they happened to have one on their lot. After I signed the paperwork for my car the salesman asked if I would like to take a ride around the block in the 600. It was a remarkable automobile, like no other I had ever been in. I still have a brochure for the car he gave me that day.
