Spacesaver

last year we did a long trip through Europe and found that luggage space is very limited on long trips . esspecialy the spare takes up a lot of space .
Anybody knows if there's a spacesaver we can use , from later types that might fit ?
I know a emergency-can could do the trick but i'm not big fan of those .  And offcourse the minute i throw out my spare i get a flat tyre somewhere in the middle of nowhere .
