Colour code 726H
« on: August 06, 2011, 09:19:19 »
I have a 280SL colour code 726H and Reggie has the very same colour!!!

Both of these cars are US spec and seem to have come from California, both cars have ended up in the UK.

I was wondering how many other members  have 726H SL's, so chaps, who else is a 726H?

Never before, have i owned a car, where the colour has caused so much attension, People that dont normaly look at cars, stand there with mouths open,  : 8) Then it comes, (what colour is that) they say, You tell me ?.  :-\ Taupe, coffee, err, err, putty, then they say no it isnt, what colour is it, well its not grey and its not beige, but its real name is grey biege,
My car is now spotless, paint, chrome, interior, all spot on, i have people jumping out at tfaffic lights, taking pictures, i get followed until i stop, old folk, young folk all going WOW, So i presume the colour is ok then,  ;D

I also get questioned about my color 728H Beige-Gray Metallic.  Like you said, it's not gray and it's not beige so when it came to register the car the color selections were very basic.  The car is registered as having silver paint which was the closest color choice available.

Photo?

Just seen the link to Flickr. Lovely looking car. And the one in the above post is, in my opinion, even more stunning.

Hauser,

I really love your pics on Flicker. I'm still struggling with the colour of my car, then I saw yours and thought "WOW" that colour is simply stunning....only later reading that yours is actually 728H.

It is slightly darker and has a little more grey in it than the 726H.... I also love the tobacco interior!

How about a swap?

Very classy,    I had a red one, bit boys toys like a fire engine, red and chrome, I felt a bit  mid life crisis in that, white is a bit hair dresser,  :-*
I would like a mans colour, like metalic blue, or silver, I had a dark blue 1989 300 SL, but it never looked clean,   ::)
So i'l stick with mine for now, I'm happy enough, ish,   ;)

Looks like four cars are listed as grey beige in the Car Registry so it seems to be a fairly rare color for these cars.

So, while I await the delivery of my very first Pagoda car (69 280, light beige), like a kid with comic books (dating myself:-), I'm doing the research.   Our own Technical Manual (Paint Codes) lists these lovely colors as follows.

716H is GREY-BEIGE - - 63 thru 65
726H is BEIGE-GREY - - 68 thru 71
728H is BEIGE-GREY (METALLIC) - - 68 thru 71

I do love the color of the Pagoda Car that I bought but -------------------- Oh, never mind..... :-)

Cheers, Hank

I own of of the (rare and few) 728H Beige Grey 280SL in this world.  I just love the color combination of the 728H exterior color with the 138 dark brown interior.  This is the original color combination of this car when built.

I know that all of us feel that our car is the most beautiful car on the planet. It's our individual and personal preferences that makes things exciting.

Other than the beautiful one that Hauser has, I do not know of any others to reference.  Who else has one with the same color combination as ours.  Please if you have one let us know.

Who else has one?

When i aquired my project three years ago it had been painted green some time in the past, when it came time to paint it i have had it done in the origional 728H i am very pleased with the result.
I am just fitting the new soft top at the moment.
As a matter of interest the interior is dark brown and when i removed the old MB tex to fit new leather all the old material had 601 written on it in ink/biro/marker pen.
If dark brown is 138 why would 601 be written on each piece of material ?

Jim

Jim,

This color is indeed a quite rare and very nice for the pagoda in my opinion.
A few years ago I owned a 1969 280 SL with factory color 728 H  Beige Grey metallic, see attached picture. The car now is in Norway.
However I  still own a nice 1969 300 SEL 6.3 with original color 728 H. It's a Spanish car from new, but was repainted by a PO in
what seems to be a slightly lighter version of the 728  that I've seen on other cars including the pagoda I  had.
An Italian friend of mine in told me that this color was quite frequently ordered for W109, W113s and other MB's from this period in Italy.
Guess they always had good taste over there. :-)

Well Reggie,

It seems that only you and I on here have 726H!

Had a proper look at the data card and although I originally thought the interior was beige, it is leather - code 246.

Spent few days in Southhampon for Cowes week ( sailing regatta for our US cousins)'.... Had 3 offers for the car,  one from a very enthusiastc American boat ower, who saw the red tail lights and US spec LHD -and instantly decided it was the car he wanted for Nantucket! Got a little carried away in his enthusiasm, was telling all that he'd bought his dream car...

Had Umpteen people comment on its colour and how beautiful it is  etc etc etc.

Deciding if I should sell it  to the chap and buy another...

Reggie, whaddyathink chap?

Is this the same colour? 726H?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270798299186&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123

I think that looks more like 728H... The dash panel however looks pretty close though.
Hard to tell from the net.

As Regie pointed out, the Glove box door appears to be a different color than the rest of the dash.

Also I noticed that the softop storage compartment (bonnet) is missing.
