hubcap molds
« on: September 19, 2011, 01:47:53 »
my friend who used to own a mercedes body shop stopped by my dental office friday. I wasn't in, so he told my staff he would be back this week to talk to me. He owns a mold template to paint our hubcaps. I sure would like to trade  some minor dental work for that.  my fingers are crossed

If it's one of those soft silicone rubber jobs do the world a favour and set it on fire. Just about the most usles POS I've ever had the misfortune to use. Never again, I'll tell you.

I love to agree with the Benz Dr!  ;D
When I talked with the owner of the paint shop that is doing the 280SL at the moment he mentioned that he is using a mask for the wheel covers but knowing how closely I look at the details he warned me that the edges will not be straight but somewhat frayed.
That's when I decided to to mask them myself as described here: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/WheelsTires/HubcapPainting
He was happy to provide the line tape and masking tape. We'll see how it turns out later.

no, this is metal -he used it on my hupcaps 20 years ago-he still has it-he aquired it from a mercedes dealership when they closed their bodyshop years ago. They contracted him to do their work. That is how he got it.
