anyone know a source or glass shop that has been able to order Sekurit successfully? I'm in central Portland, OR.

p.s. a couple years ago, a group of us met at starbucks with pagodas. we should do that again... who here is in the portland area, let's chat offline and then have a coffee too.

(oh, the reason why is i got a rock chip on I84 the size of a dime and it's in the tint/green region of the windshield, which i'm guessing means it can't be repaired, but i'll go to a glass shop and see what they suggest, or maybe should i be weary of what they suggest?)

Got a rock chip in the windshield too, of all the places on I-5, where you'd think the road would be clean. Got a product at Schuck's autoparts, called Windshield Repair Kit, made by Permatex. It did a very good job at first but after it sat overnight, half of it ran out again. Permatex tells me (via e-mail)that it is an anerobic product that uses UV to set-up. Maybe I didn't have enough sun. I have heard that places like Novus use a UV light. Is a Blacklight bulb the same? I could try that. I'd hate to replace the windshield. It's such a big job and they'd screw-up something else in the process, like the wood or the aluminum trim. :(
There's a car show on Alki on July 21  Alki Car Show, 1412 SW.102nd St. PMB #228, Seattle, WA 98146 Cost $15

Hello Engineer.
Yes, a "Blacklight" lamp puts out UV radiation but whether it is useful depends on whether its radiation matches the wavelength required by the photo-initiator to start the polymerization.  Many blacklights that are used to make "party paints" fluorescent, or glow, emit longwave UV (360 - 400 nm) for safety reasons. They may not work for your purpose. Lamps for rock hunting are switchable between long and shortwave UV, they may be better.
But exposure to strong sun light for about 2 hours should be really plenty.
;)  Do you get that much in Seattle this time of the year??  :)

Hello 66&Blue:
Thank you for pointing that out. As a result I did some research: It appears I was mistaken about the phenomenon "Sunlight". I thought, like most people who live in Seattle, that daylight is sunlight. Apparently, the mere absence of hard rain does not mean the sun is shining in Seattle. It has been explained to me that I have to look for a very bright object in the sky. Apparently it produces a phenomenon called a "Shadow". Around here, I have actually seen a shadow once, but it was in moon light. Our local chief meterologist, Andy Wappler, tells me we might have some genuine sun light at the end of July, maybe. But he is known for always being wrong. I shall wait for "Sun Shine" and apply the windshield repair kit then. Thank you!

Unless you think you'll be in a Concours competition with your car, PPG makes a perfectly fine tinted windshield for our cars at a  significantly lower cost and readily available from most auto glass shops.  Mine was less than $300 installed.
