Nice weather is finally here in Kuwait
« on: November 30, 2011, 19:39:45 »
Hello Everybody
you know that during the blistering hot months of summer in Kuwait I imagine many of the members in many parts of the US, Europe, and Australia enjoying their pagodas (and I get happy for you all) while mine is sitting under the car shade being washed and pampered but no driving enjoyment (even though it is always a joy to own one).
I know for many now it is too cold to drive with the top down, well not in Kuwait.
I am really having a great time with my 250SL since the weather is amazingly nice now and expecting the season to last well into May.
just thought of sharing this with you all,
Have fun.

Thanks for sharing - now it's your turn to make us all jealous!

I can say that I was in Kuwait two weeks ago, however it was at the airport in transit so doesn't really count ...

Enjoy these months and post some photos if you can!

Basem,

why not ship your car to Europe for the European event... the weather will be cooler here!

Now that would be cool!

Better yet, drive it: only a combination of Saudi, Iraq, Iran and or Syria to cross!  ;) :o

I really like that color though my dark red is more maroon and often confused with brown.  It looks like the car is riding a little high are the shocks different?

Hello Basem, hope you find a nice shade tree where you might enjoy a slice of apple pie and coffee there in Kuwait:-) You have a beautiful car and enjoy your drives now that the weather is more temperate there. Winter is coming soon to our part of the world and not too many top down days left. The hardtop will be going back on soon and the heater will be used ( at least when my wife is in the car:-)

Hi Tosh
This is a good idea but you missed 2 countries, Jordan and Turkey (where I would be doing most of the driving), will I see you on the road as well? ;D

Hello Peter
As much as I would love to, but at this time it will be difficult.
just in case do we have any arrangements with any shipping companies at this time?

Sorry Tosh but if I decide to attend  then I will not see you on the road but look forward with meeting with you and everybody there in the event.

Thanks and kindest regards

.

Hello Peter
may be the car appears to be riding a little high because I have 195/75/14 tires on it rather than 70, even though I really don't think it would make much of a difference.
another thing may be because the angle of the photo is a little low so it is showing the gap above the tires more.
a little while back I was thinking of changing the color to the ivory white with the hard top being black  (which was common during those days), but I like the red on my car as well.

Thanks Peter & Cheers

Hi John
you really brought a big smile to my face this morning, I really did not think you would remember.
I looked for a quite place that makes apple pie and served coffee with a big tree in the front, and I would like to tell you my friend that indeed I found one.
I sat under that tree in the right corner of the photo where my wife made us apple pie (Kuwaiti style) and I prepared the coffee and sat in my backyard.
If you ever come across here then I would love to invite for the same, how about that?!

Thanks John and enjoy the rest of the top down days.
Cheers and happy holidays

Basem,

no, we don't have any such arrangements... it wouldn't make sense given that it depends on the individual where they'd have to ship their car to and from. However, you can attend such an event without your car, and rent a car locally. You'd still have the fun of the event, the camaraderie, and still see 30 pagodas....

Maybe for 2013?

Basem

A couple of people who attended the 2010 event rented Pagodas from companies in Germany (Stuttgart if I recall). Museum and Classic Centre trip thrown in! I THINK Norm did this...

Hi James
This sounds good.
I have contacted a local shipping company to get a rates for shipping my car to and from there for the event.
but renting sounds like an easier route.
I will look into it and try to make the arrangements to attend.
Thank you

Regarding renting a Pagoda in Germany.

Here are the two sources I inquired with.  I ended up renting from Royal Classics and was very pleased with the communications and support I received from them.

A couple of points to consider:  First, think about renting someone else's 48 year old car.  Other than being a little difficult to start we had no problem with the car, but not knowing when services like brakes, coolant, hoses, belts, etc. were last done can be a little disconcerting when you are in a foreign country driving someone elses car.  Just being with the Pagoda Group helped relieve some of that anxiety but I certainly did not have the confidence that I would have had with my own car.  And it wasn't cheap!

That being said, it worked out great and added to our enjoyment of the event.

However you decide to join the group I know you will enjoy the company.

Here is a group picture.  Our rental was the white one on the bottom right.  (I think parked next to Tosh)

Basem, I was looking for your car in a recent "Chasing Classic Cars" concours d'elegance episode that was filmed in Kuwait this year... ; )
