Eugen Bohringer 230sl Questions
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:39:06 »
There are two 230sl race cars that I know of that are in the Mercedes Museum. One is the red #39 race car, and the second is Sandy Beige 230sl that has blue rims and top. Have seen some photos on net, but trying to get additional info. Does anyone know if specs are available for the cars in the museum? Or, where to get more info?

Charles ....,

Ah no, there is no further information available about the specs of the cars.
The red #39 car is a recreation of the factory original Boehringer Spa-Sofia-Liege car from 1963 with the serial 000014. The original car is supposed to be destroyed and lost, at least according to official statements of MB.
Sometime around 2002 the Classic Center rebuilt a copy of this Boehringer car from a regular customer's car that was sold to them. AFAIK the replica is an original 1966 car. It was manly rebuilt under the guidance and memories of Eugen Boehringer because there were only very few and vague data in the Archive about the original race car.
However, no specs (performance, torque, rear axle, gear box, springs, etc.) are published about the replica.

The other car, the sandy beige car is an earlier car that has been displayed in the Mercedes Museum already for a long time. I assume that MB has owned this car already for decades. That car was never (supposed to be) a race car but just a regular serial car. I have never heard about that car being presented as a running car on any event MB participated.
