Fuel Damper

Hi, I am trying to rebuild my fuel damper for my 69 280sl. I've ordered a rebuild kit  from Three Point Motor here in Nanaimo, B.C and it's been two months, so far no parts. They told me it' in Germany a long time ago, still no parts. Does anyone know where I can get the rubber diaphram and spring. I have the damper housing. Frutrating to ay the least. I thought I read somewhere that the earlier Pagodas didn't ue this part. What if I jut re in talled the housin g and eliminated the rubber. All it does from my undertanding is to eliminate the pulses in the return line. The 107's also use a damper but it is a different part.

Go to your local MB stealer he will get you the parts,i bought the kit from them about 2 years ago it was not that expensive, but the way MB have been ramping up the prices recently who knows.
Someone has to pay for the Greece bailout.

Eric, thanks, I've been waiting on them now for over two months. They told me a month and half ago that it would be in  Germany in two weeks. I've phoned them half a dozen times and there's still no answer. They just tell me they will get hold of MB Canada which I assume is in Toronto to see what's going on but they never seem to get an answer. I suspect someone down the line is not doing their job as maybe I'm not important enough and the order is so small that they can't be bothered. The local parts guy is an okay guy but who knows. I guess I have to start yelling.

Fuel damper spring #127 993 00 01

Here are the parts I used for my damper rebuild. I got them at the Classic Center in Irvine, CA. Give Tom Hanson a call and see if they have them. They should. You will also need a few seal rings for the fittings as well and he will know which ones you need.

It is an easy rebuild but you need to "preload" the spring when installing the cover. Otherwise the diapragm might wrinkle on the pinch seal.

Re. WWheeler. How do you preload the spring, I know what you mean by the diaphram would wrinkle. BTW, just talked to the MB dealer and he said that the part was in Germany on June 12 but haven't heard back  if the kit  made it to Canada yet. Parts guy said he would email me when he knew anything.  But thank for the info on The Classic Center, I've been in to their webite but found it confusing. Will wait a bit and if it doesn't how up shortly I will call Tom Hanson. Thanks a lot for the help. Carey

I just stick a bolt or such with a stop through the threaded opening in front casting that compresses the diaphragm and spring. It should position the diapragm right at the line where the two parts come together. That way it avoids any wrinkling. I doubt you would get a good seal without doing the preload.

Got the damper kit finally on July 20, thanks for the info guys and to wheeler for the tip on installing the diphram so it doesn't wrinkle when bolting it together. Couldn't do many of my jobs without the help from this forum. Many thanks for the members who have helped and the trove of information in these forums. What a great site.

I just ordered a replacement diaphragm and glad I did. According to the Classic Center, that was their last part and now it is NLA. Maybe some in Europe but if you need one, might try to get one very soon. Some of the part gurus here might want to check that before I start a panic.

I tried to get one here in the UK lastweek and was told they are NLA.

Have you been to the Isle of Man TT?  That's the most insane racing I've ever seen.  It's been on TV here in the states.  If I live long enough and retire with any money at all, my bucket list includes the TT and the Goodwood.  Closest I ever got to any of this was saying hello to Derek Bell in an airport once.
