These any help?
The bolt that goes thru the inner fender has a grommet and spacer tube which protects the rubber from being crushed.

Don't ask for the part # of the grommet  :'(

I just replaced that fender well grommet on m y 280 SL, but did not get the part number. You can check with Dave Gallon (member on the site) and he should be able to get the number for you. I have another coming for my 250 SL, so if no-one else answers I will supply it later.

The part number for the grommet at the inner fender is
000 997 87 81

In the pictures set from 66andBlue, the top right photo is the connector for the air cleaner to the shroud protecting the air cleaner from the engine side.

Hello Jon,
good catch. The red arrow in my photo next to the buffer is misleading, since the buffer is not used to fix the canister to the inner fender. I removed the photo and replaced it with a better one, I hope. However,  this arrangement is not correct for the 230SL air cleaner canister!

Thanks guys, great, apart from the fact that I dropped the bracket and have to pull the air cleaner apart and out again, to recover it!!
