Injection Pump Installation Questions.
« on: March 08, 2012, 23:18:10 »
I get my FIP back early next week and I have some questions for the re installation.

1) What are torque settings for injections lines on the FIP and Fuel injectors?

2) What is the torque setting for the fuel injectors?

3) I install the injector lines from back of engine to front, correct?

4) What is the proper way to prime the FIP once installed?  I seem to remember something about leaving the injection lines open a bit at the fuel injectors, turn the key on to let the fuel pump until it leaks out at the injectors, then tighten the injector lines down.  I know I read how to do it before in the forums but of course I can't find it now.

5) Any other gotchas?

Thanks in advance

Well, you should pay more attention to the experts than me, but here's what I did:

- I tightened both line ends by feel, same as I do almost all bolts.  This may be sloppy of me, but after enough bolts you get a feel fro what's right.  I only break out the torque wrench when precision is required like head bolts.

- I didn't remove my injectors, so I can't comment on them.

- To get a wrench around the pipe fittings on the injector end, I had to work from one end to the other.  I think I disassembled back to front, and reassembled front to back.  I don't think it matters - just which ever gives you the best access.

- I left the pipe fittings loose at the injectors and cranked the engine until there was fuel.  There won't be a lot.

- I replaced the two gaskets where the pump mounts, one on each side of the Bakelite spacer.

- I also left the oil line and two fuel lines a bit loose until everything was in place, then tightened up.

I think that's about it.

Thanks.  I also took the pump out with the timing set at 20 ATDC and have not moved the car.  I should just be able to align the FIP timing marks and slide it back in.

Oh yes, setting the timing correctly is important too  ;D
