Help/ Help!!! Front Axle rebuild
« on: May 05, 2012, 19:02:56 »
So I have decided to keep going on the dismantle process. The engine is out and most parts are being sand blasted, zinc plated, powder coat, ceramic coat, hight temp paint, etc. Yes, I am going for it!

Last week I told my mechanic to bring down the front axle. After having it steam cleaned, I have decided to dissassemble that too. I am not sure if I will paint or powder coat the parts. Regardless of this, I noticed that many plastic and rubber parts need to be replaced.
Can someone tell me where to buy the parts? I am not going after originality here. So I would like to avoid MB parts if possible.

Thanks in advance

Replacement parts will be what MB used but can be found through the WD chain, via resellers.

One thing you have to be very careful of is keeping paint away from anything that has threads on it. I rebuilt a 190SL sub frame recently and had to clean all of the paint/primer off of all the upper and lower inner pivots. A bit of masking tyape would have been a good idea.  I knew about this but didn't think to tell my painter bout it.
