Hi everyone. this is my first post on this group. i recently bought this precious jewel 230sl and im wondering if i can get help on the info of my car. my vin stands at 11304210002474. i saw the info on data that the eight digit is for the transmission type. my car is an automatic, howcome on the vin its 0 which means its a manual? is there an error somewhere? thanks alot.

Hi Slim:

The VIN number is for a 230SL, manual transmission, lefthand drive car built about February 1964.

Perhaps that the transmission was changed to auto at some time in the past.

It may help if you have the Mercedes Classic Center (there is one in California USA) send you the Data Card for the car. It will tell you the options, colors, and other information about the car.

The only thing I would add is -- where are you getting your VIN number from? If it is off a title, it could be an error but if it is off the Firewall plate and/or the chassis stamp, I'd say the tranny has been swapped out.

i have buy a car 280 SL Pagode 1970 from Los Angeles.
Where in America can I see how many owners who is the first owner has my car?
When is the date to come to USA? Can you check the historic data for me?
