Fuel injection pump problem.
« on: February 12, 2013, 23:49:34 »
Hi there, my name is Jim and i am the proud new owner of a 1965 230 sl that is indeed a project car. I hope to learn a lot.

The car was originally from Germany, shipped to Illinois and now in California. It sat for close to 18 years. I started pulling it apart (what i am good at) and my friend started to get it run (what he is good at) and we quickly realized we had a fuel injection pump issue. here is damage to the housing that needs to be repaired/replaced. We showed to a local guy and he wanted nothing to do with it.

So please advise. Whats my next step?

Thanks

There are various places that specialize in these pumps; look in the vendor list.

Damage to the housing is very rare I would think, given how protected the pump's location is, between the engine and chassis. Your best bet is probably to find a suitable replacement pump or housing and a specialized FI pump rebuilder is bound to have a couple of these housings laying about.

Some pics of the damage could help us to understand your situation.

Just to be certain, do you mean the pump in the engine bay or the pump under the chassis between the rear wheels?

Something heavy must have fell on it to brake like that, I don't think any glue can hold it together as the spring pressure would brake it off, you may have to go for another used unit.

Try Black Forest.  Ask for Michael Mc Kinney.  I sold him a good 230 pump last year as a core.  maybe he has one.

If hat doesn't work email me off line as I think I know where there is one near where I live that might be for sale.

You might also want to check with Hans at H&R. he rebuilds these things and may have some old cores around where he can provide you with a replacement for this section as part of an overall rebuild on your existing pump.

My 67 is the same unusual color combination.  Good luck.
