my new custom armrest
« on: October 18, 2012, 04:19:44 »
Hi All,

Just thought I would solicit some opinions about my latest modification project. Not having an arm rest has always bugged me. This corrects a serious deficiency in our beloved Pagodas.

There is no cause for alarm from all the purists among us because this box is designed to be lifted out at will, revealing the original carpeted open tray.

I love the look, feel and aroma of this leather! Therefore,  a sharp eye will see that I did the horn ring, the ashtray lid, and I wrapped the grab bar with it also (not installed yet).

An outfit in Dallas is going to stitch on a steering wheel cover as soon as I get it sent off to them.

Regards, Larry in CA

I just happen to be mocking up my own version of an armrest.  I'm in the cardboard stages and doing a bit of fine tuning right now.  I have a friend who is a cabinet maker that will build it and then I can send off and have it veneered.

I see no problem making the interior more functional to suit your personal needs and tastes.  Well done!!!

I also had the same in my car, although my upholstery is black, so it was less catching. I have removed it and installed the original, but like Hauser, I consider such modification as a personal touch. So…. no harm….  ;D

Just for the record - - - the paint code is 172 Anthracite Grey Metallic (lacquer), the leather is Maroon (or Burgundy), and the carpets are Charcoal square weave.

I like it as well. Glad you made it to lift out with ease. I like to keep my car as originally configured. I just restored the interior of my car and wrapped the grab bar as well. Looks better than the brownish plastic. I have quite a bit of the Cognac hide left over. Can you send the dimensions of your armrest? It would be great on the longer cruises.

Wow, Lurtch. I am impressed not only with the armrest but with how far Icon 66 has come. Hard to believe its the same car that I first met you. Nice work.

That looks great, I also really like your interior the two tone is very nice. From what I can see the carpet matches the paint and it really makes the rest of the leather really stand out in the car. Very Nice
