Connector for 55 Amp Alternator

My 280SL project came without an alternator.  I bought a used alternator with the correct pulley, but the connection is different from the car's wiring (see pictures).  So I have a used connector on the way from our own Joe Alexander.

Then mindlessly surfing on eBay, I came across this rebuilt 55 amp alternator, which has a three prong connection matching my harness where the internal voltage regulator goes.  It also has the tab connector for the + connection matching my harness. 

Hmm.  Could I buy this alternator and plug my harness into it, or am I missing something?

I had my original 35 swapped out for a Bosch 55 unit and as far as I know the connection is the same.

It would be great to just plug it in.  It makes sense that the internal regulator could be replaced with a connection to the car's regulator.

But here's what bothers me:

1. The connector on my car looks original.  I thought that a 70 280 came with the 35 amp alternator and the "pin connection."

2. If you look at this thread, http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=5026.0, the Mercedes replacement requires you to change the connector. 

Have I stumbled on a plug-in solution (for once)?
