Don't know how often we had this topic discussed here on the Group... probably as often as the part's net price in single €€ or $$ counts... :'(

The answer to your question is no.
The early column switch you are looking for is unique to the 230 SL and early 250 SL up to serial 002979.
The late column switch you are not looking for is unique to the 280 SL and late 250 SL from serial 002980 on.

If a column switch does not hold on left or right turn this can be repaired.

Most owners feel too comfortable for a home-made repair and prefer a new one.
For availability see attached.

Sorry, Mike...,

That was not the exact answer to your question.  :-X

The RHD and LHD column switch are identical for the 230 SL.
... which is not the case for the late style 280 SL column switch.
I was told (by Naj and Tosh) that these had RHD-specific inscriptions on the black handle/knob.
The RHD 280 SL column switch (which is not yours, I know) is NLA and for RHD cars the LHD switch 002 545 2924 has to be used as a replacement nowadays.
Only difference is the opposite orientation of the engraved little wiper symbol. The LHD symbol is now upside down when used on a RHD car ... :o but otherwise does not interfere with the normal intended function.

Thanks Achim
The problem I have is the slow speed wiper setting does not work unless I hold the rocker part of the switch down manually. the fast speed works ok
would this be fixable                                                                                                                                                                                         Many thanks.Mike. ?

Paul, you should place your attachment in the Tech Manual.  Would be of much interest.

I am quite new here on this forum, so I have not investigated how to do this, and would not want to screw something up.

Hello Mike,

Don't know for sure since I haven't had this problem before with the column switch.... :o
This appears to me to be a problem with the spring contact piece for the slow speed within the column handle. Perhaps some dirt.
These handles "can" be opened (and fixed if not a plastic part is broken) but it is a bit tricky to get that little C-lock pin (or dowel pin) out.

I tried that with a little needle.

replacement or column stalk switch flashing

1 disconnect the ground cable at the négative terminal of the battery
2 take the rubber sleeve out of the steerling column jacket and push it back
3 unscrew the two cross-recess head screws on the angle brackt from the base of the steering column jacket
4 pull the switch outward and disconnectthe electric cables
5 during intsllation pay attention to the color coding, connect:
6 the black-white grenn cable to terminal 54
7 the white-gren cable to terminal 31
8 the brown cable to ground
9 the black-gren cable to the terminal for the right flash direction signal
10 the black-white cable to the terminal for the left flash direction signal
11 the black-yellow-pink cable is a direct connection between plug and horn contact

no luck or chance!
I put a stalk that never stops the wipers
Used for another
who has no right or flashing call light!
"discription" as they say in France

gnj588d -

I'm generally very much in favor and sympathy with the Contact Cleaner Approach, but have viewed with alarm some older posts referring to what that stuff has apparently done to the major switching complex located in the steering column.  It sounds like some of its plastic parts -- this is early plastic -- simply dissolve in the presence of contact cleaner, collapsing and rendering the whole thing useless.
If I understand your situation, you are concerned with the simpler switch at the other/outer end of the stalk, so my concern may or may not be relevant just now.
But the whole idea of the magic elixer that contact cleaner represents can be that destructive to some of our most complex, delicate and important components is very concerning to me.  I'd like those with experience of such things to help make the issue clear, especially if the risk is real.   TIA, and luck to all.
