lost my keys & i need blanks for the doors & trunk. can anyone help?

in some large urban areas locksmiths that have been in business for a loooooong time have some of the old key blanks....here in NYC, we have a few old timers that have blanks.

Another source is www.key-men.com/cars/mercedes.html

Also some Mercedes dealers or the Classic Center may have vintage key blanks.

You will need a key to copy or the key code from the data card.

Your Mercedes Benz dealer parts department can order replacement keys for you. You will need to bring in your title for the car clearly showing the serial number of your car along with your drivers license, they will make a copy of them and place the order for you. I bought a new master and valet key earlier this year from my local dealer. Even though I have been doing business with them for over 20 years they still require the documentation as that is the Mercedes rule.

Keys made by others will not be the same as the Mercedes key which is made from plated steel, the off brand keys will be plated brass and are subject to wear over time.

While your there ask them to also order a key holder (it is called a "bag" in the Mercedes system, must be some translation issue) for you part number 108-890-06-61 price $16.00 available only in black. With my discount the master key was $25.53 and the valet (secondary) key was $19.89.

The valet key only works in the door locks and ignition, not in the glove box lock, truck lock, or locking gas cap.

By the way, I understand that 230 and 250 had different lock&key models than the 280 model. If you want to stay within the canons of originality, make sure that you get the right ones.

If you have the key codes from your data card, it makes the process from ordering at MB much easier.

Maybe things are different in the US, but I asked my local (UK) dealer if they could get copies of my 3 keys (1964 230SL). I gave them the codes but was told that they couldn't get ANY of them  :'( :'( :'(

I have subsequently been able to replicate the ignition key, but the other two are proving elusive ...

Maybe I was lucky with my 1971 model as they are the same as the original keys made by Huf.



As the original poster does not mention the year of his car I was just stating what is available for my '71.

I'm very surprised. I brought my key codes to the local dealership in the U.S.; they in turn ordered them and they were shipped from Germany. Maybe ask an alternate dealer?
