News from Paul Bracq
« on: January 06, 2013, 16:23:45 »
Paul Bracq called me today, excited: there is a Pagoda in the family!  His son Boris, just bought two actually, with the intent of creating one.  One of the Pagodas is in need of restoration, and the other is a wreck for parts.  I think the work is going to commence shortly.  I had communication with Boris' wife and Paul many months ago about this topic, and it looks like it happened.  I can only imagine if some unsuspecting body man questions how something should be on that car.  There will be NO QUESTION that it will be correct!  ;) 280SLs in case anybody wants to know.

Boris has also began to set up a website for him and his father: http://paulbracq.com  Right now there is no content (besides a contact email, and a Pagoda picture!) but I suspect there will be in the future.

Michael,
Just an idea: do you think that Mr Bracq Senior would accept to become our honorary chairman? (If the Board and Members are OK we have one?)

And secondly would Mr Bracq Junior consider joining our Group?

Who knows ! That may be a unique occasion for Paul Bracq to have it the way he always wanted it to be, without having to take marketing or manufacturing constraints into consideration. It will be correct anyway, as long as this is the way he wanted it.

Paul Bracq has recently proved he could use his talents outside of conventional ways:

Not sure the Pagoda would make a nice Pick-up  :o (but the W111 Coupe would, by moving the C pillar on top of the B pillar and have the back of the side widow rounded to match it !)

I find the original design very nice, and I don't really see any possible improvement. May be the back top angle of the side windows which is a bit too pronounced with the soft top up. But then I don't see how a rounder window would fit with the design of the very specific hard top. Or the back top area could come closer to the back seats, and it could be flat, ala thunderbird. This could give a better flow to the design with the top down.

At one point Bracq tried to convince MB management to go with horizontal headlights, at the time of the W108 I think. This could have yielded a facelift on Pagodas prefiguring the r107. I wonder what the car would have looked like?

Frua tried made it into a shooting brake, not sure the result is better thn the original. May be Paul Bracq could have a go at it ?
