data card uk/ireland issue
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:31:16 »
ok so did the searches about what it is and why i need it but tried MB in England and they are saying they have no record of that car. it then dawned on me that the car is still on original Irish plates so are the data cards a regional thing and i need to be off to Ireland to look for it. the guy at MB here wasnt that interested to be honest so thought i might ask here before i go back and go over his pay grade to get what i need or i need to widen the search.
any Irish owners here ?

The data card is issued from the Mercedes Classic Centre . Irvine California is the fastest and they are really helpful giving all the details of what the card codes mean,

Try Tom Hansen at the California Centre in Irvine. You will have to show proof of ownership. registration documentation is usually accepted for non US cars

You can also give the MB Classic Center in Fellbach, Germany a call.  They too will issue a date card.

Your dealer is doing what most MB dealers do and not trying very hard.
Your data card will be held in Germany and any MB dealer, if he wants to, can get it for you.

yep like many MB Car Dealers today they don't want to know you unless you are buying a new car.  I also had difficulty with my data card from Germany, waited four weeks and ended up going to USA and had it back within 48 hours. Tom Hansen does a fantastic job and is always very quick.

Garry I have nothing but praise for Jon, Tom & the team at MB Classic Centre.
Are you aware whether physical, hard-copy reproductions of the data card can also be obtained ?

They have a special certificate that they sell I believe that can be framed or may already be framed.  There has been a posting here some time ago but I have not been able to find it.

Garry, if you are referring to the Zertifikat, unfortunately this was discontinued by MB back in 2010....quoted from the MB Wiki:
"As of the end of 2010, Mercedes-Benz Classic will discontinue the practice of issuing certificates for Mercedes-Benz vehicles since this product was no longer in conformity with the current market situation."

I have asked our local MB dealers about a hard copy reproduction of the data-card but they have no idea as to what it even is !!! I think they are all geared towards new car sales.....

Yes, definately go to Classic Center USA. don't beat around with the new car dealers.  They have no historical knowledge of these cars, parts guys are too new to even remember them, however, the parts guys (ask for Woodie) at CC USA know what you are talking about.  They will send you one.

Great tip Garry and Tom came up with the gods in record time as well despite me being told by two outlets in the UK they couldn't help. I wasn't sure if it was couldn't help or couldn't be A....
I will now have to do some searches to work out what it all means on the card
