Shipping large piece from USA to Australia
« on: December 26, 2012, 15:55:09 »
I spoke with a very nice gentleman in Australia and he wants me to ship a hood and trunk to him in Australia... I do not know even how to start.  IDEAS?  He is not very computer literate but can place phone calls if I can give him some ideas and phone numbers.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bob

Bob, for many years I shipped very large pieces of freight using a freight fowarder and consolidator out of Chelsea, Massachusetts called Seajet Express.  Their website was not working today, so I don't know if all is OK there; try calling at (617) 884-0991.  I worked with a fabulously responsive and efficient woman named Gabrielle Hiemann.

They always handled everything for me through their domestic and international network.

If that does not work, start looking up "crating and packaging" and "freight forwarders" or "freight consolidators" in your area.

Everything I shipped needed custom crating, and the custom craters usually had knowledge of the freight forwarders and consolidators.

You'll usually find them located near the airport, in your case, O'Hare.

Hi Bob
I have saved an advert (full page) from one of the Australian Classic car marketplace magazines - I think it was Cars and Parts - but it is on my desk and I won't be home for another couple of weeks.
Perhaps you could ask your client to browse the mags as we have a few consolidators and shippers of car parts who all advertise regularly. I kept the ad because I was interested in getting a set of early wheels and the add said they were AUD25 each.

Bob,

I have fairly recently finished a major repair to my car which involved shipping a hood, guard,  door and other bits and pieces from various parts suppliers in the US to Australia. I used a shipping company called Mainfreight International who have offices/depots in all capital cities in Australia. They use a shipping agent in CA called  Kiwi Shipping who are located in Carson CA. All I ever had to do was get the items to Kiwi at Carson - I had numerous "bits" coming from multiople suppliers, they consolidated them into a load in their next shipping container (weekly dispatch) and off they went. Kiwi looked after all the paperwork at your end and at this end, Mainfreight sorted out all the customs duty etc. I cannot recomment them more highly. If you are interested, PM me for details.
BTW, no connection etc etc

Cheers

Bob,

I have also used Mainfreight International for shipping my Jaguar from CA to Melbourne together with Kiwi in CA and they were a reasonable price and efficient with out any problems.
