New firewall pad
« on: February 23, 2013, 04:24:08 »
As the renovation of my Pagoda progresses, there are (and fortunately so!) some visible signs that it actually happen. So far I noticed the progress mostly by the fast drainage of my wallet, but now nice things are showing up.

Here are pictures of the new firewall pad. I remember there was a lot of discussion elsewhere on this distinguished Forum about the correctness of the pattern and about the way the new pad should be applied. I went for a pad that is offered by Babak at thttp://www.mercedesrestorationparts.com/100073.html

As for the application, the pad was left 24h on a warm but not hot radiator and, just before application, a hairdryer was used progressively on each piece to make it soft enough, just prior to sticking it. The elements of the pad were then applied from the upper end down to the bottom. The entire task took about 30 min and I was glad that it succeeded at the first attempt. I guess that any readjustments would deteriorate its adherence, which would possibly result in some bad surprised later on.

Hope you like it as I do :)

Looks great Stan, just in time too as I'm getting ready to purchase one for my car. I prefer this pad better, it has thinner padding & dark color all the way through and no hairy fibers sticking out from the cut out areas. in the photos looks almost same color as 172G.

many thanks everybody. And Shaun, yes, it is actually 172G and the pad matches well with that ... :)

I have plenty of pictures at various stages of restoration. However I would like to wait a bit longer and arrange the whole lot in a kind of logical story. This will hopefully happen in 2 months. So please stay tuned…. :)
