I purchased a set of the correct SLS rings and I also purchased a set of the following generic rings.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/14-WHEELS-RIMS-DRESS-TRIM-RINGS-HOLDEN-FORD-NISSAN-NEW-/181095698581?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2a251095&_uhb=1#ht_500wt_1180

The $50 set fits better and looks better and I could not tell the difference between them from the outside.  The inner holding ring is slightly different but it allows the cheaper set to sit better in on the wheel.

Go figure that

I second that. The " correct" set does not fit correctly. Sticks out. The reproduction from this supplier fits like a golve. No issues. I think they ship overseas too.
You can see them on my car. Refer Garry Marks' photos of the 50th Celebration.

I've used the generic rings on several cars for myself and friends.  No issues and yes, that's $55 for 4.

John,
how did you attach these rings? Using the original 4 (or 5?) clips or did they come with built-in clips as on these rings?
Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/290490843963
Who has experience with these built-in clips?

they look like your picture

It takes a good look and a trained eye to see the difference between original and the repro.  For some, use the repros for driving and original for show.

Alfred,

I have used the $50 ones and they have a similar attachment system to the photo you have.  They have the builtin holding clips. The ones from SLS whilst slightly different came and also fit the same way.

They just press into the rim.  The problem of course is that they scratch the paint where they press in but they do stay there and nothing is seen of the scratched paint until you remove them.  Appears that that is is the only way they are fitted!

I bought mine from Nationwide Hubcaps in Utah.
 http://nationwidehubcaps.net/info.html

They are on EBay  http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-14-CHROME-Steel-Wheel-Trim-Rings-Beauty-Rims-Glamour-Ring-Rim-Edge-Bands-/230831235336?hash=item35be9d2108&item=230831235336&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr  I'm not positive these are the same as mine, best you call to verify.

My part number from them was IWC1514C  It may be an outdated number.

I'm interested in replacing my original rings as they are dinged.  I've looked at the eBay listings recommended in this thread.  Looks like nationwide offers a 14 inch by 1 3/4 or 1 1/2 inch version.  Any idea which is the better fit?

Regards,

Actually,it's a 1967 912 that a friend of mine bought from another friend of mine (I'm a matchmaker).  I was sorting it out before it was shipped to him in VA.  He's having great fun with the car.  It was a really nice, very honest 912 with a lot of originality.  Really a lot of fun to drive.  Relatively cheap Porsche fun in those 912s.

I did drive the 1970 911S in the SOLD CARS section of my friend's website.  That thing was a rocket and loads of fun, but I just wasn't ready to pull the trigger to buy it.  I've run out of convenient parking space for the cars!

I agree about the 911s, I drove one from the 60's it was an absolute blast, a lot of fun. I too also have reached my limits with cars, if I had the choice the early 911 would be it.
