maximum opening of the hood
« on: July 30, 2013, 14:00:27 »
When I work on the engine, sometimes the hood is kind of annoyingly obstructing the view and access. I remember my 1996 E320 where I could move the hood fiurther open to vertical position. That was the easiest access ever to the motor compartment.

The hood on the my 230 sl is limited by a strap. If I would release that, would the hood open to vertical?

Maybe a silly question, but access would be much better for some works. I want to avoid of course damaging the hood.

thanks, Rudy

It will open further, but if it goes too far, the tension rod/prop will slip out of the other side of the holder, spring back and potentially cause damage to paintwork, fingers etc.

On my car if the hood opens further it will hit the condensor for the A/C in front of the radiator...

Good question, but no.  It's not a feature in the W113, but the way the 113 hood is attached is about as light weight as they could think of at the time.
