I was out driving last weekend and the 4 speed started feeling a little sloppier than usual. I parked at a store and when we came out I had no reverse. No big deal, I was able to push the car back a few feet and with the sloppy transmission drove home. I immediately went to the Technical Manual and found both the diagnosis and the solution. Sent an e-mail to my now buddy Jon at the Classic Center and $50 later (delivered) I had all of the bushings listed in the tech manual to rebuild the linkage on both ends, and on the stick shift itself. An easy 1 hour apart and 1 hour together job that anyone with a few tools can do. Can't believe what a difference it made in the shifter, it now clicks into each gear. So if your shifting is getting a little sloppy, $50 today (or as an fun winter project) is worth doing!
