turn signal multi switch proper hook up from scratch
« on: August 21, 2015, 00:55:57 »
when I got the 280Sl I am working on. The turn signal multi switch was in a box on the seat.  There are two wires taped to the hole in the steering column where the switch goes---- one black one brown.  The black is obviously the hot side the brown is the ground.  There are two poles that are not used yet on the switch---one on the top one on the bottom--can someone please tell me how to connect? I do not want to burn up the switch. Thanks in advance Vi

Vic,
have seen the information about the multifunction switch  in the technical manual?

Perhaps your answer is there, but if you need more then let us know.

Alfred,

The technical manual says to replace it the same way it was when you removed it.  The car I am restoring did not have one installed when I got it, so I don't have one to remove and reinstall in the same manner.  Do you have any additional advice?  Thanks for your help.

If I am not mistaken the brown and black wires in the column should go to the horn switch on the steering wheel.
To connect those horn wires to the multifunction switch just hook the brown wire to the brown wire on the switch head bracket and the black one to the other pole.
If you look again at the wiring in the multifunction switch connector:
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/uploads/Electrical/Column_Switch_connectors.jpg
you can see that a "black/yellow/pink" wire connects to the horn switch. Thus your switch wiring should look like the one in the photo below.
Got it?  :)

{For questions like that it also helps to consult the color wiring diagrams in the technical manual}
