Remember this is summer, so this solution may not work as the weather gets colder.  One thing you could do is to rig up a push-button switch to ground the thermo-time switch and fire the cold start valve to provide some extra fuel to help with initial warm-up.

Is it not possible to modify the old WRD to used the newer parts?  The thermostat housing looks identical.  The body seems to be the same size and shape but with a hex head plug oposite the air muffler/filter.  I have a backup I could loan to you if you want to duplicate the parts.  It seems probable: there is a spring and slide action built into the new WRD that allows the thermo shaft to move farther than the output shaft.  I'm thinking the FIP travel is somewhat less than what the new
WRD can offer.

@garymand, I am not familiar with the new WRD parts. Do you have any pictures you can send me?
@66andblue, thank you for referring me to Larry. We talked and the cure for the bad WRD that I did will work.

For some time the engine has burned a little bit of oil. Instead of rebuilding the engine, I was thinking about using one of the oil additives like Alemite CD 2. Does anyone have experience with this additive? If so, what are the drawbacks to using these additives? I know this is a temporary fix, but I am exploring all options.
Thanks in advance
