Where did you get the neat chrome covers for the holes that are used to mount the bumper guards?

That's my cheap Dutch nature. Instead of having the holes in the bumpers welded shut, then rechrome them, I decided that, with simple antenna caps (that's how the auto shop I bought them at called them) I would achieve almost the same effect. The are chromed plastic (no discernible difference with chromed metal), have a small black plastic washer at the bottom and attach via a plastic nut that you tighten by hand from inside the bumper. They come in various sizes and are very cheap. I did the same with the front bumpers. I'm sure they can be found at any auto parts store, and probably even at places like Eckerd Drugs, K-Mart etc carry them.

The bumper guards were original MB, as far as I know. Probably mandated by US safety regulations, as from a certain year. To me, they disturb the clean lines of the car's design (as do the side marker lights), but many people do seem to like them. In fact, I'll put mine (the ones I took off my bumpers) in the "for sale" section of the site. They will be cheap.

cees, i don't believe the bumper guards were mandated in the US. they were just a very popular option. you do occasionally see US-spec cars without bumper guards.
