Original Continental spare and wheel
« on: October 21, 2013, 04:50:46 »
Several years ago I changed my wheels to the 5.5 x 14 alloys from a 123 car.  These are the wheels that accept the original wheel covers.  I have michelin hydroedge tires on the wheels and should have bought five of them because michelin has since discontinued the 14" size as far as I can tell.  I found a good used 14" hydroedge online and another alloy wheel and have now put the additional wheel and tire in the trunk for a spare.  When making the change I removed the spare that was in the car from its cover and found a pristine, apparently never driven Continental 185 R 14 "Radial" Made in Germany with the raised rib on the black sidewall.  It's mounted on the original steel wheel which also looks unused. I'm just trying to get an idea as to how unusual this is and is it an item that would be of particular interest to originality collectors/restorers.  Any thoughts or observations are appreciated.
